West Bengal seems headed for yet another chillingly violent panchayat elections, with TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee giving a call for 'opposition free' panchayats.In terror-stricken Keshpur - which has not voted freely for 11 years - local TMC leaders have issued murderous threats, warning the CPIM not to field candidates; threatening voters to stay away from booths; and the police from doing their duty.
An angry CPIM leader Susanta Ghosh lashed out at TMC, saying, that, "without police assistance, it will be impossible for the ruling party to stay in power." Apart from West Midnapore, violent TMC leaders in volatile districts like South 24 Parganas too have started threatening voters and Left parties - warning them not to contest elections.
In 2018, at least 100 people died in gruesome ways due to TMC's blood-curdling electoral violence.
