International Day of Disabilities A New Horizons Of Rights And Respect For Special Need

The International Day of Disabilities was first observed on December 3 in 1992, following the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3 on December 16 1991.The theme for International Day of Disabilities 2022 is "Inclusive Education". It aims to raise awareness about inclusive education and its benefits, as well as advocating for greater access to quality education opportunities for all people with disabilities.International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of disabled people.
The objectives for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in 2022 are:
- To promote awareness about disability issues
- To promote inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities
- To promote respect for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities
- To promote understanding about disability issues
- To promote a culture of peace which values diversity and strives to eliminate all forms of discrimination
It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992 and first observed on December 3, 1992.The objectives are to increase awareness about disability issues; mobilizing public support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities; promoting respect for the human rights of persons with disabilities; focusing attention on the challenges faced by persons with disabilities.Possible ways that this day can be celebrated include: organizing or participating in events that raise awareness about disability issues, hosting an event at school or work that includes people who have a variety of abilities, donating money to a charity that supports people living with disabilities.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has announced a new policy to promote self-employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The ministry will provide Rs 10 lakhs in funding to any individual or group that can come up with an idea for a sustainable business plan that would employ at least one person with disability.The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment also announced that it will be launching a nationwide survey in order to identify the needs, challenges, and priorities faced by persons with disabilities across various states in India.
The day is a good opportunity to call attention to the challenges faced by people with disabilities, including accessibility barriers that prevent them from participating in society on an equal basis with others.
