There were a total of 4,381 cases of COVID-19 that were reported during the week of December 11-17, according to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare in the country of Paraguay. This is a 93 percent increase when compared to the same time period the previous year.According to the General Director of Health Surveillance, Dr. Guillermo Sequera, who spoke at the epidemiological update conference, 57 percent of this figure, which corresponds to the 50th epidemiological week, represents reinfections in 2,500 patients. This information was presented by Dr. Sequera at the conference.
According to the official data from the Ministry, 19 infected women are pregnant, and 168 of those sick are health workers. The Director General noted that 215 people are currently hospitalized, of which 9 are in the intensive care unit.According to Sequera, during the reference week there were a total of 9 deaths that were reported; the majority of the deceased "had comorbidity, diabetes, hypertension, or obesity." Dr. Sequera continued by saying that "sixty percent of those who die are unvaccinated, and thirty-five percent have incomplete immunization."
