On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of India declined to take into consideration the submissions that were made requesting an early setting up of a new bench in order to hear Bilkis Bano's petition challenging the remission of sentence given to 11 convicts in her gang-rape case by the state of Gujarat.
Shobha Gupta, a lawyer representing Bano, argued before a bench consisting of Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachud and Justice P. S. Narasimha that another bench should be constituted to hear the case."The writ, also known as the petition, is going to be listed. Kindly refrain from repeating yourself over and over again about the same thing. It is a source of great annoyance "according to the CJI.On Tuesday, the Supreme Court judge Bela M. Trivedi announced that she would not be hearing a plea that was filed by Bano.
In order to proceed with the hearing of Bano's case, the CJI will have to convene a new bench, which will not include Justice Trivedi among its members.
