The tensions between Serbia and Kosovo are rising, which will likely lead to the outbreak of a new war.
A new conflict erupted as a direct result of the detention of an ethnic Serb named Dejan Pantic, who had previously served as a police officer for the self-proclaimed republic. In the northern part of Kosovo, Serbs have started constructing barricades. After that, Pristina's police special forces were dispatched to the northern region to put an end to the fighting. On Sunday evening, there were three skirmishes that took place on the way to the Brnjak checkpoint, which were located near lake Gazivode. Aleksandar Vucic, the President of Serbia, made the announcement that Belgrade would make the request to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for permission to send Serbian security forces to Kosovo.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, has stated that he will not give permission for any Serbian security forces to enter Kosovo without his prior approval. The situation is becoming more tense, and it's possible that a new conflict will arise.
