Following the announcement by the Taliban that women in Afghanistan will be barred from attending universities, a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, have voiced their disapproval of the group.The Afghan Ministry of Higher Education delivered a letter to all academic institutions on Tuesday evening enforcing the decision, which resulted in Wednesday being the first day that female students at universities were denied admission.
The move was strongly criticized by countries all around the world, including those in the Middle East, which also voiced their opposition.On Wednesday, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced "astonishment and sadness" at the most recent development and demanded that Kabul roll back the decision.During a discussion on Afghanistan on Tuesday, the deputy ambassador for the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, Amiera al-Hefeiti, voiced her vehement opposition to the decision.
