Honda has been working on a new SUV for the Indian market for quite some time now. The Jazz and WR-V, the fourth-generation City, and the City and Amaze diesel will be discontinued in April 2023, leaving only the gasoline-powered City (and its hybrid version) and the Amaze on sale in India at that time. Since Honda's product line in India is lacking an SUV, this new model is essential.
Midway through the year 2023 is when we can expect to see Honda's new SUV hit the market, and it will compete head-on with models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It's expected to hit shelves sometime around the holiday season of 2023.
Honda's new midsize SUV will have a length of about 4.2-4.3 metres and ride on an improved version of the Amaze's Indian-market platform. Other than that, we have no idea what the model might look like, and we haven't even seen a disguised version of the SUV yet.
Honda's global SUV lineup, however, suggests that the BR-V three-row SUV will share a visual language with the new-generation WRV SUV from Indonesia and the latest-generation CR-V. The front end may get a big hexagonal grille and wraparound headlights, and it may look very sleek and modern with a high nose and straight lines. According to Honda, the midsize SUV will be designed specifically for the Indian market, which may result in a heavy dose of chrome to appeal to local tastes.
There is little information available about the interior of Honda's midsize SUV, but we have heard that it will feature the same updated electronic architecture and screen system as the new Accord and CR-V sold internationally. Thus, it could have a 12.3-inch display for media and a 10.2-inch one for instruments.
Honda Sensing, introduced with the City e:HEV in India, will most likely be standard on higher trim levels of the compact SUV. Essentially, it's Honda's suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), bringing with it conveniences like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and more.
