External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid in Male on Wednesday to discuss regional peace and security. The two Ministers discussed the full spectrum of special bilateral partnership with a focus on development cooperation, capacity building and people-to-people ties.
Dr Jaishankar expressed India's commitment to helping the Maldives in its development journey and reaffirmed India's support for the Male government's efforts to ensure regional peace and security. The two had also witnessed the handover of two sea ambulances from India to the Ministry of Defence of Maldives.
During the meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid, they discussed ways to streamline business ties between the two countries. An upcoming key meeting between prominent members of the Cambodian and Maldivian business communities is expected to open up greater trade opportunities between the two countries.
The two Ministers also discussed the signing of agreements that are emblematic of the strong and multi-faceted development partnership between the two countries. India and the Maldives on Friday signed an agreement for cooperation between their financial intelligence units. These agreements will help to further strengthen the existing business ties between India and Maldives.
