For the first time in forty-five years, Assam has reported that there was no rhino poaching in the year 2022.
This marks the first time in in 45 years that CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made the claim that there was no poaching of endangered rhinos in the state of Assam in 2022. Rhinos are valuable because of their horns.
Between the years 2000 and 2021, the state of Assam, which is home to the biggest number of one-horned rhinos in the world, reported the illegal killing of 191 rhinos. In the meantime, officials attributed the absence of any poaching to the honest efforts of the state's forest ministries.
