On Friday, the 10th national conference of the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) was held in Howrah. Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, gave a speech during an open session of the conference. In his speech, Vijayan highlighted the achievements of his government in the agricultural sector of Kerala's economy. He also spoke about the challenges that agricultural workers are facing as a result of the neoliberal economic agenda that is being pursued by the BJP government at the present time. He pointed out that although the number of agricultural workers has been rising, their average number of working days has significantly decreased, which has resulted in widespread unemployment and migration.
In addition to this, he discussed the stagnation of real wages for agricultural workers over a period of time, as well as the rise in the number of people who are landless and without homes as a direct result of neoliberal policies. He urged all of the workers in rural India to unite in class struggle against the ruling class and called on the conference to come together and "unleash struggles on the class issue of wage and land." He also called on the conference to unite and "unleash struggles on the class issue of land." In addition to this, he voiced his disapproval of those who he referred to as "sycophants of empire and betrayers of our struggles."
