On the evening of February 16th, 2023, tragedy struck in the town of Namchi, Sikkim, as former MLA and SDF Vice President Binod Rai was attacked by four unknown assailants, who were all wearing masks. Despite sustaining serious injuries, Rai was conscious and immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
The attackers are still at large and no motive has been released as of yet.This incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks that have been stirred up by the 4th of February speech by Sikkim's Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
This attack has caused shock and outrage in the local community, who are demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.

Sikkim's Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang , who recently laid the foundation stone of the Ekana Cancer Instituteu and congratulated the winners of the independent, party-less local body elections.
