State Government Backtracks on Agreement, Farmers Vow to Continue Protest
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) today congratulated the farmers of Greater Noida for successfully resuming their sit-in struggle at the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) headquarters.
The AIKS had suspended the dharna on June 24, 2023, after an agreement was reached with the state government to form a high-power committee to address the farmers' demands. However, the state government has now backtracked on its commitment, and the farmers have been forced to resume their struggle.
In a statement, the AIKS demanded that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath explain why his government has violated the agreement. The AIKS also expressed its full support to the farmers in their ongoing struggle.
The statement said, "The farmers of Greater Noida have shown great courage and determination in their fight for their rights. They have braved the authoritarian and undemocratic state government and are continuing their struggle with determination. The AIKS extends its full support and solidarity to the farmers."
The AIKS also called on the people of Uttar Pradesh to come out in support of the farmers and demand that the state government fulfill its commitments.
The statement said, "The farmers of Greater Noida are fighting for the rights of all farmers in the country. Their struggle is a symbol of the growing resistance against the anti-farmer policies of the BJP government. We appeal to the people of Uttar Pradesh to come out in support of the farmers and demand that the state government fulfill its commitments."
The AIKS also said that it would continue to support the farmers in their struggle until their demands are met.
The farmers have been demanding that the state government return their land, which was acquired for the construction of the Greater Noida Expressway. The farmers have also demanded that the state government provide them with adequate compensation for their land.
The farmers have been protesting for over 60 days, and they have vowed to continue their struggle until their demands are met.
The AIKS statement said, "The farmers of Greater Noida will not rest until their demands are met. They will continue to fight for their rights, and they will not back down until they have achieved justice."
