Maharashtra: 25 people killed after bus catches fire on expressway
Mumbai, India (July 1, 2023) – At least 25 people were killed and six to eight others injured in a horrific bus fire on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway in Maharashtra's Buldhana district on Saturday.
The bus was travelling from Yavatmal to Pune when it caught fire around 2 am. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Deputy SP Baburao Mahamuni from the Buldhana Police said that the bus was carrying 32 passengers. He added that the fire started in the rear of the bus and quickly spread to the rest of the vehicle.
The injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The fire brigade arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. However, by that time, most of the passengers had already been killed.

- Savita Mane (60)

- Akash Pawar (8)
- Ramdas Pawar (65)
- Savita Pawar (60)
- and 11 others whose identities have not yet been released.
The fire is a major tragedy and our thoughts are with the families of the victims. We hope that the injured passengers make a full recovery.
The police are investigating the cause of the fire and have registered a case.
