Rescue operations underway after under-construction building collapses in Delhi

A portion of an under-construction building collapsed in Delhi's Dakshinpuri on Thursday afternoon, trapping several people under the debris.

The incident took place near Nanki Public School in G-block, central market. According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call about the collapse was received at around 5 pm. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and rescue operations are underway.

DFS chief Atul Garg shared pictures showing rescue operations at the scene of the collapse. He said that three people were trapped under the debris and one person has been rescued so far.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known. However, the area had received heavy rainfall earlier in the day, which could have weakened the structure of the building.

The police have cordoned off the area and traffic has been diverted.

The DFS chief has appealed to people to stay away from the area and avoid crowding the site of the collapse.

The incident is a reminder of the need for safety precautions in under-construction buildings. Builders and contractors must ensure that all safety measures are in place before allowing workers to enter a building.

The government must also take steps to ensure that under-construction buildings are regularly inspected to check for safety violations.

The collapse of this building is a tragedy and our thoughts are with the families of those who have been affected. We hope that the rescue operations are successful and that all those who are trapped are able to be safely evacuated.
