Delhi, India - The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will protest outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on Friday, October 6, against the arrest of its Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Singh was arrested on Wednesday evening in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy. The AAP has alleged that Singh's arrest is politically motivated and is an attempt by the BJP to silence its critics.
AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has strongly condemned Singh's arrest and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misusing central agencies to target his political opponents.
"Sanjay Singh is a sher (lion) and PM Modi can't scare us," Kejriwal said at a press conference on Thursday. "The BJP is scared of AAP's growing popularity and is trying to crush us using central agencies."
Kejriwal also alleged that the BJP is targeting the AAP because it is afraid of the INDIA alliance, a coalition of opposition parties that is being formed to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"The BJP is scared of the INDIA alliance and that's why they are targeting Sanjay Singh," Kejriwal said. "But we will not be intimidated. We will continue to fight for the people and expose the BJP's corruption."
The AAP's protest outside the BJP headquarters is expected to be a major show of strength. The party has called on all its workers and supporters to participate in the protest.
The BJP has denied the AAP's allegations and said that Singh's arrest is purely a legal matter. The party has also accused the AAP of trying to politicize the issue.
It remains to be seen whether the AAP's protest will have any impact on the ongoing ED investigation against Singh. However, the protest is likely to further escalate the political tensions between the AAP and the BJP.
