A balloon seller died and 11 children were injured in Maharashtra's Latur on Sunday after the gas cylinder he was using to fill balloons exploded. The seller, who has not yet been identified, died on the spot, while the injured children were admitted to a nearby hospital.
The incident happened around 6 pm in the Tavarja area of Latur, when the balloon seller was selling balloons from his two-wheeler. A large number of children had gathered around him, when the cylinder suddenly exploded. The blast was so powerful that it damaged the seller's two-wheeler and shattered windows of nearby shops.
The injured children were rushed to the Latur Government Medical College and Hospital, where two of them are said to be in critical condition. The other children are stable and are expected to recover soon.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but police suspect that it may have been caused by a leak in the cylinder. Police have also registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the matter further.
