Kathmandu, Nepal, October 3, 2023: An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck Nepal at 2:51 pm today, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Doti district, about 150 kilometers west of Kathmandu.
The earthquake was felt across Nepal, as well as in parts of India and Bangladesh. There have been reports of some damage to buildings in Nepal, but the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
The National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) has been activated and is monitoring the situation. The NEOC has advised people to stay calm and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
Aftershocks
The NEOC has also warned of the possibility of aftershocks. Aftershocks are smaller earthquakes that occur after a larger earthquake. They can be just as damaging as the main earthquake, so it is important to be prepared.
