The Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU) has secured a victory for three women employees at Aarbee Structures, after the company was forced to return their original certificates that had been illegally kept under their custody.
The employees had resigned from the company, but the management was demanding a substantial amount from them in order to retrieve their original certificates. This is a violation of labor laws, as companies are not allowed to withhold employees' original certificates as a condition of employment.
KITU intervened in the matter after receiving complaints from the employees, and filed a complaint at Whitefield Police Station (Bangalore) against the management for intimidating the employees and engaging in illegal bonded labor practices.
Eventually, the management was compelled to return the original certificates to the employees during a meeting between Aarbee Structures Management and KITU leadership at Whitefield Police Station.
This is a significant victory for KITU and its members, and shows the importance of collective bargaining in protecting the rights of workers. KITU will continue to fight for the rights of all IT/ITeS employees in Karnataka, and ensure that they are treated fairly and with respect.
