November 14, 2023: Subrata Roy, chairman of Sahara India Group, passed away on Tuesday in Mumbai. He was 75 years old. Roy had been ill for some time.
Roy was born on June 10, 1948 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. He founded Sahara India Group in 1978. The group operates in various sectors including financial services, housing finance, mutual funds, life insurance, urban development, real estate, newspapers and television, film production, sports, information technology, health, tourism, consumer goods.
Roy has been honored on many occasions. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2005.
Many political and social leaders have expressed condolences on Roy's demise.
Uncertainty about the future of Sahara Group
Roy's death has created uncertainty about the future of the Sahara Group. No decision has been taken yet regarding the management of the group.
Roy has two sons, Suman Roy and Sujoy Roy. Suman Roy is the Managing Director of Sahara Group, while Sujoy Roy is the Executive Vice President of Sahara Group.
