Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan - In a delightful twist on the traditional Japanese custom of taking a hot bath on Good Bath Day, capybaras at Nasu Animal Kingdom were treated to a special "apple bath" on November 25th. The heartwarming event was held to help the South American rodents, who are sensitive to cold weather, prepare for the upcoming winter.
With temperatures dipping below freezing, the zookeepers at Nasu Animal Kingdom set up a large outdoor tub filled with steaming hot water and generously added 100 locally-grown apples. The capybaras, known for their laid-back and sociable nature, eagerly waddled into the warm bath, their eyes lighting up at the sight of the floating treats.
As the capybaras relaxed in the bath, they happily munched on the apples, their contented squeaks filling the air. Visitors to the zoo watched in amusement as the capybaras enjoyed their special treat, many taking pictures and videos to capture the adorable scene.
"We decided to prepare the bathtub with apples in the hope that the capybaras will stay healthy during the winter," explained Daiki Sakurai, a 22-year-old zookeeper. "Apples are good for their health and are said to 'keep the doctor away.'"
The apple bath event was a resounding success, not only in providing the capybaras with a fun and healthy activity but also in bringing smiles to the faces of visitors. The event is a testament to the zoo's dedication to the well-being of its animals and its commitment to creating a unique and memorable experience for its guests.
