Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand: Communication has been established with all 40 workers trapped inside a collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, officials said on Monday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also reached the site to oversee rescue operations.
The tunnel collapsed on Sunday, trapping the workers inside. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to reach them, but the operation has been slow due to the difficult terrain and the unstable condition of the tunnel.
On Monday, rescue teams were able to communicate with the trapped workers through a borewell. The workers informed the rescuers that they were all safe and had access to food and water.
Chief Minister Dhami said that the rescue operation was being carried out on a war footing. He assured the families of the trapped workers that everything possible was being done to rescue them safely.
"We are in constant touch with the rescue teams. They are working day and night to reach the trapped workers," Dhami said. "We will not rest until all of them are rescued safely."
The rescue operation is expected to take several days. In the meantime, the rescue teams are providing food and water to the trapped workers through the borewell. They are also trying to stabilize the tunnel so that they can safely reach the workers.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
