Ranchi, India – November 28, 2023
A three-day protest by farmers and workers in Jharkhand concluded on Tuesday, November 28, with a resounding call for the removal of the Narendra Modi government and the implementation of pro-farmer and pro-worker policies. The protest, which drew thousands of people from across the state, was a powerful demonstration of the growing anger and resentment against the Modi government’s anti-people policies.
Addressing the massive gathering, Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Joint Secretary Avdhesh Kumar accused the Modi government of betraying the trust of farmers by reneging on its promise to implement a Minimum Support Prices (MSP) law for crops. He said that the government’s failure to keep its word had exposed its utter disregard for the plight of farmers.
Kumar also highlighted the Modi government’s relentless attack on the rights of workers, with its privatization of public sector enterprises, labor code reforms, and rising unemployment. He called for a united resistance against the government’s anti-worker agenda.
Other speakers at the protest echoed Kumar’s sentiments, condemning the Modi government’s policies and calling for a change in government. The protest also passed a resolution condemning Israel’s ongoing military offensive against Palestine.
The protest concluded with a pledge to continue the struggle for farmers’ and workers’ rights. The participants vowed to intensify their agitation until the Modi government is forced to abandon its anti-people policies.
