Five people, including a woman, have been arrested by Agra Police for the alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old hotel employee in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place at a homestay accommodation in Basai, Tajganj area. A case has been registered under rape, assault, and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The victim, who is a native of Jaunpur district, was working at the homestay for the past three months. She alleged that the five accused, who were all guests at the homestay, barged into her room on the night of November 12, 2023, and raped her.
The victim managed to escape from the room and ran to the hotel manager's room, who then called the police. The police arrived at the scene and arrested the five accused.
The accused have been identified as Rahul (25), Rohit (24), Ravi (23), Pinky (22), and Meena (20). They are all residents of Agra.
The victim has been hospitalized for treatment. She is in stable condition.
The police have registered a case under sections 376D (gang rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Agra. Many people have come forward to support the victim and demand justice.
The police have assured that they will conduct a thorough investigation into the case and bring the accused to justice.
