November 12, 2023: Two passengers lost their lives in a tragic incident when a Delhi-bound train in Jaipur hit the brakes due to a snapped overhead electric wire. The sudden halt, a result of wire falling on the train, led to fatalities. Running at 130 kmph, Purushottam Express faced four-hour standstill. East Central Railway is investigating the incident between Gomoh and Koderma stations.
The deceased passengers have been identified as Ram Kumar (45) and Sita Devi (38). They were both residents of Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at around 12:05 PM near Parsabad between Gomoh and Koderma railway stations. The driver of the train applied the emergency brake to stop the train after the overhead electric wire fell on it.
The two passengers died due to the sudden jolt. The other passengers on the train were unharmed.
The train was brought to Gomoh by a diesel engine from the accident spot and sent to Delhi by an electric engine after four hours.
East Central Railway has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The cause of the wire snap is yet to be ascertained.
