Balangir, Odisha: As the Income Tax Department's raid on Boudh Distilleries Private Limited enters its fifth day, the amount of seized cash has surpassed Rs 200 crore. Currency counting machines have been brought in to expedite the process of counting the massive amount of cash recovered.
The ongoing raid, which began on December 6th, is being conducted over allegations of tax evasion. The Income Tax Department, with the assistance of additional personnel from both the department and banks, is deploying approximately 40 large and small counting machines to facilitate the process.
The raids have also extended to Baldev Sahu Infra Private Limited, a group company of Boudh Distilleries. This company is linked to Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand, Dheeraj Sahu, adding a layer of political intrigue to the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary reports suggest that the recovered cash is primarily in denominations of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 notes. The Income Tax Department is currently scrutinizing company documents and interrogating officials to ascertain the source of the undeclared cash and determine the extent of the alleged tax evasion.
This raid is considered one of the largest cash seizures by the Income Tax Department in Odisha history. The magnitude of the operation and the involvement of a prominent political figure have drawn widespread attention and sparked speculation about the potential ramifications of the investigation.
The Income Tax Department has remained tight-lipped about the specific details of the case, stating that the investigation is ongoing. However, the sheer volume of seized cash suggests significant irregularities and potentially exposes a larger network of tax evasion.
As the raid continues, it is likely to shed further light on the financial dealings of Boudh Distilleries and its associated companies. The outcome of the investigation is expected to have a significant impact on the liquor industry in Odisha and potentially raise questions about the involvement of political figures in such operations.
