Amidst ongoing investigations into recruitment corruption across the state, a shocking incident of job fraud has surfaced in Hooghly. In a well-orchestrated scheme, a woman named Nirupama Chakraborty, along with two accomplices, allegedly extorted money from vulnerable individuals seeking jobs in railway warehouses.
The modus operandi involved using the cover of Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya to lure unsuspecting job seekers. Posing as agents facilitating government employment, the group operated from a house near the Shiv Mandir football ground in Khannan. They duped individuals into believing that they could secure them jobs in exchange for payment.
On Wednesday, the fraudulent scheme was exposed when a group of job seekers arrived at the designated location for signing paperwork. Recognizing the suspicious nature of the situation, they immediately alerted local Trinamool leader Shantanu Sarkar. Acting swiftly, Sarkar informed the Pandua police station, leading to the prompt arrest of the perpetrators.
Following initial questioning, inconsistencies in their statements prompted authorities to formally arrest Nirupama Chakraborty and her two accomplices. They are scheduled to be produced before the Chunchura court on Thursday, facing charges of fraud and extortion.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the prevalent job scams targeting desperate individuals. It underscores the need for heightened awareness and vigilance among job seekers, urging them to verify information and avoid dealings with unauthorized personnel. The ongoing investigation into the case is expected to reveal further details and potentially expose additional individuals involved in the wider network of this fraudulent scheme.
