From Independent MLA to Jharkhand's New Chief Minister: The Unconventional Journey of Champae Soren

Ranchi, January 31, 2024: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Champae Soren has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He submitted his letter of support to Governor Ramesh Bais at the MLAs' meeting on Wednesday. Soren enjoys the backing of JMM legislators besides some MLAs from Congress.

Champae Soren becomes the first Adivasi Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He was elected as an independent MLA from Ulidih in Saraikela district. After joining JMM in 2019, he was appointed the Minister for Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes Welfare.

Soren is a significant figure in Jharkhand's political history. He played a crucial role in the movement for the bifurcation of Bihar. He has also been a prominent leader of Jharkhand's Adivasi movement.

With Soren at the helm, Jharkhand's political landscape might witness polarization. JMM and Congress will jointly run the government, while BJP and other opposition parties are likely to unite against the Soren government.

Champae Soren's Political Journey:

Champae Soren was born in 1954 in Ulidih village of Saraikela district. His father, Late Jaipal Soren, was a freedom fighter and Adivasi leader.

Soren won his first MLA election in 1978 from Saraikela. He went on to serve as an MLA for five consecutive terms. In 2019, he joined JMM and was appointed the Minister for Transport, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes Welfare.

Champae Soren is a skilled politician and a respected public representative. He enjoys immense respect within the Adivasi community.
