Mumbai, February 23, 2024: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi passed away today at the PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, two days after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 86.

Joshi served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1995 to 1999, becoming the first leader from the undivided Shiv Sena to hold the state's top position. He later served as a Member of Parliament and the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004.

Born in Nandvi, Maharashtra in 1937, Joshi began his career as a teacher before entering politics in 1967. He was associated with the Shiv Sena for over four decades, holding various positions like Municipal Councilor, Chairman of the Standing Committee, and Mayor of Mumbai.

Joshi's political career spanned several decades, and he played a significant role in the development of Maharashtra. His passing away is a loss to the state and the nation.
