A tragic incident unfolded in San Mateo, California, where a family of four, originally from the Indian state of Kerala, was discovered deceased within their home on Tuesday (Feb 13).
The deceased were identified as Anand Sujith Henry (42), his wife Alice Priyanka (40), and their twin children Noah and Neithan (4). San Mateo police confirmed that two members of the family succumbed to gunshot wounds, while the cause of death for the other two remains undetermined.
Authorities are currently investigating the possibility of a murder-suicide, though they have not ruled out other potential explanations. Initially, relatives speculated that carbon monoxide poisoning from a heater or air conditioner might be responsible, as the family had previously complained of nausea and headaches.
Anand Sujith Henry and Alice Priyanka had been residents of the United States for nine years, both working in the IT sector. Alice held a senior analyst position, while Anand was employed as a software engineer. They relocated from New Jersey to San Mateo County two years prior. The couple was well-regarded by neighbors and colleagues, admired for their hard work, amiability, and dedication to their children.
The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has been in contact with the family's relatives in India, offering consular assistance during this difficult time. The consulate extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the wider Indian-American community.
