Heavily Armed Baloch Militants Launch Assault on Pakistan's Gwadar Port

KARACHI, Pakistan - March 20, 2024 - In a brazen attack, heavily armed Baloch militants stormed the Gwadar Port Authority Complex in Balochistan, Pakistan on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024. Security forces responded swiftly, neutralizing all eight militants in the ensuing confrontation. No casualties were reported among security personnel or civilians.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group opposed to China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects in the region, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The BLA accuses China and Pakistan of exploiting Balochistan's resources for their own gain.

Gwadar Port is a strategically important deep-water port on the Arabian Sea and a linchpin of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a cornerstone of BRI. The port has been the target of previous attacks by Baloch separatist groups.

The attack is likely to further strain relations between the Baloch separatists and the Pakistani government. It may also raise concerns about the security of Chinese investments in Pakistan.
