THE HAGUE, Netherlands - In a major development, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has unanimously ordered Israel to take immediate steps to ensure basic food and humanitarian supplies reach the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The court highlighted the worsening living conditions in Gaza, including threats of famine and starvation. This ruling comes as part of an ongoing case brought by South Africa against Israel for alleged genocide against the Palestinians.
Previously in January, the ICJ had ordered Israel to refrain from any acts violating the Genocide Convention. Despite this, Israel has continued its bombing campaign in Gaza, targeting Hamas militants according to their claims.
The human cost of the conflict remains high, with reports indicating over 32,000 Palestinians killed and nearly 70% of buildings in Gaza destroyed.
