In a display of unified dissent, farmers across Punjab rallied together on Sunday to protest against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates contesting in the Lok Sabha elections. Demonstrations were marked by the prominent waving of black flags, symbolizing the farmers' discontent and opposition towards the BJP's policies.
The protests, organized by the United Kisan Morcha, saw widespread participation from various farmer organizations, including the Revolutionary Farmers' Union Punjab, Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugraha, Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Dekodan Agricultural Development Front Punjab, and All India Kisan Sabha.
The dissent spread across multiple constituencies, with BJP candidates facing strong opposition in Faridkot, Gurdaspur, and Patiala districts. In Faridkot, BJP candidate Hans Raj Hans encountered protests, as did the candidate in Gurdaspur district. Furthermore, BJP's MP candidate, Parneet Kaur, faced vehement opposition and black flag demonstrations in Patiala district.
The protests underscored the deep-rooted grievances of farmers against the BJP, whom they hold responsible for policies detrimental to their interests. Farmers decried BJP's alleged disregard for their welfare, labeling the party as the "killer of farmers and workers."
