Seoul, South Korea (April 1, 2024) South Korea unveiled its latest innovation in high-speed rail transportation on Monday, introducing the KTX Cheong-ryong, a cutting-edge bullet train boasting a maximum speed of 320 kilometers per hour.
Breaking new ground in domestic engineering and manufacturing, the KTX Cheong-ryong becomes South Korea's first domestically designed and produced high-speed train to exceed the 300 kilometers per hour mark. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the nation's transportation infrastructure development.
Previously, South Korea's venture into high-speed rail began in 2008 with the introduction of the KTX-Sancheon. Now, with the KTX Cheong-ryong, the country demonstrates its commitment to advancing railway technology on a global scale.
Scheduled to commence operations in May, the KTX Cheong-ryong will provide commuters with enhanced connectivity between major cities. With four daily services between Seoul and Busan in the southeast, and two daily services between Seoul and Gwangju in the southwest, travelers can expect faster and more convenient journeys across the country.
The unveiling of the KTX Cheong-ryong coincides with the 20th anniversary of the KTX, reaffirming South Korea's position as a pioneer in high-speed rail. Since its inception, the KTX has transformed the nation's transportation landscape, becoming the fifth country in the world to implement a high-speed train system.
As South Korea continues to invest in cutting-edge technology and infrastructure, the introduction of the KTX Cheong-ryong marks another milestone in its journey towards a more efficient and sustainable future in transportation.
