India Declares One-Day State Mourning for Iranian President's Death

New Delhi, May 20: The Union Home Ministry has announced that a one-day state mourning will be observed across India on Tuesday to honor Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash.

The national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings where it is regularly displayed across India, and there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning.

Iranian state media reported that President Raisi, along with the country's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several other officials, were found dead on Monday following a helicopter crash in a foggy, mountainous region in the northwest of Iran.

A Home Ministry spokesperson confirmed the deaths of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the crash.

"As a mark of respect to the departed dignitaries, the government of India has decided that there will be one day's state mourning on May 21 (Tuesday) throughout India," the spokesperson stated.

On the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across India on all buildings where it is regularly flown, and there will be no official entertainment on that day, the official added. – (PTI)
