Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu - At least 13 people have died and over 72 are hospitalized after consuming suspected tainted liquor in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district.
Reports suggest the deceased, mostly daily wage laborers and load bearers, purchased the liquor from a vendor in Karunapuram village, Kallakurichi. On Tuesday, June 18th, after consuming the liquor, they began experiencing symptoms like difficulty breathing, blurry vision, and dizziness. By Wednesday morning, June 19th, three had died.
Calls for Strict Action
Locals have blamed the consumption of illicit alcohol for the deaths. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered an investigation into the incident.
