New Delhi: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has emerged as a significant force in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, winning 16 seats in Andhra Pradesh. This strong performance comes amid the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) poor showing, placing TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu in a powerful position. With the TDP now being the second-largest party in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), only behind the BJP, Naidu's influence within the alliance has substantially increased.
Naidu's TDP is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the NDA and helping the BJP realize its Modi 3.0 ambition. However, Naidu's prominence extends beyond the NDA, as the rival INDIA bloc has also been making friendly overtures towards him. This political dynamic underscores the importance for the NDA to keep Naidu in good humour, given his potential to explore other alliances.
Despite the political courtship from various quarters, Naidu has stressed his commitment to the NDA. He has handed over the TDP's Letter of Support to the BJP, reinforcing his allegiance to the alliance. However, his support comes with conditions. According to media reports, the TDP has presented a list of five demands that Naidu wants fulfilled in exchange for his continued support for the Modi 3.0 administration.
