Durgapur, June 6: A fire at CPI(M) worker Firoza Khatun's shop in Durgapur has left her devastated. In this crisis, the CPI(M) has stood by her. Along with financial assistance, party leaders have provided sewing machines. Several leaders, including CITU West Bardhaman district secretary Bansh Gopal Choudhury, were present.
After the election in the steel area, I and Comrade Santosh Deb Roy reached the affected woman to offer our support. We managed to provide two sewing machines. Also present were Comrades Alpana Choudhury, Sandhya Mondal, Shelly, Swapan Sarkar, Deepak Ghosh, and other comrades.
We inspected the burnt shop and spoke with the police. Earlier, the police collected samples of the ashes from the burnt shop for investigation.
Firoza Khatun's 'crime' was that her brother, Firoz, was a polling agent for Left Front candidate Comrade Sukriti Ghosal. Her father had campaigned along with Comrade Lalit Mishra and other comrades.
In addition to the two sewing machines, many others have come forward to help rebuild the shop. A disability organization will provide another machine. People in the steel area are collecting funds for the reconstruction.
Through the party's support and solidarity, efforts are being made to rehabilitate Firoza Khatun.
