The Maldivian government has summoned its ambassador to Pakistan, Mohammad Taha, following an unapproved meeting with Ahmad Shakib, a representative of Afghanistan's caretaker government. The meeting, which took place recently in Islamabad, was not authorized by the Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to an official statement issued two days ago.
The Maldives, aligning with the stance of many nations, does not officially recognize Afghanistan's caretaker government. Instead, the Maldivian government continues to acknowledge Afghanistan's United Nations representative as the legitimate voice of Afghanistan on the international stage, operating in accordance with UN protocols.
While the Maldives’ foreign ministry confirmed that "appropriate action" had been taken against Ambassador Taha on Saturday, it withheld specific details regarding the nature of the disciplinary measures.
