Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and State Duma Deputy Dmitry Novikov recently commented on the U.S. election results, highlighting the potential challenges each candidate could present for Russia. Novikov noted that while there may be some "rational element" behind Russian "preferences" for Donald Trump, there are complexities with either outcome.
"The potential election of Kamala Harris would represent a significant decline in global political culture, which is dangerous on its own," said Novikov. He argued that Trump, while appearing favorable to some, would need to counter accusations of being "pro-Russian," leading him to take a harder stance against Russia to dispel any perceptions of bias. "Trump has already started demonstrating that he is 'not pro-Russian' and is prepared to take action against Russia," he explained.
Novikov underscored that the true direction of U.S. policy is determined by the "deep state" and will ultimately align with American national interests. "The final decisions will be made by the deep state based on U.S. interests, influenced by the complexity and volatility of the current world situation," he added.
In his assessment, Novikov suggested that regardless of the individual who takes office, Russian interests are unlikely to benefit substantially under the next U.S. administration.
