Trump's Victory Secured by Surge in Support from Latino Voters, Youth, and Women, Reports Der Spiegel

In a surprising election outcome, former President Donald Trump captured notable support from Latino voters, younger Americans, and women, Der Spiegel reports. Despite his long-standing hardline stance on immigration and plans to complete the U.S.-Mexico border wall, Trump secured 45% of the Latino vote—an increase from the 32% he earned in 2020. In comparison, only 25% of Latino voters supported Kamala Harris.

Among voters aged 18 to 29, Trump narrowed the gap by 11 points, while in the 45-64 age group, he increased his lead from 1 to 8 points. Surprisingly, Trump also saw a higher level of support among women, despite Harris’s focus on women’s issues like abortion rights.

Trump’s support base further grew among voters without a college education, while Harris received strong backing from Black voters. However, economic issues appeared to be the driving factor behind Trump’s appeal. Nearly three-quarters of Trump voters cited inflation as the primary source of hardship for their families, even though the annual inflation rate recently fell to 2.4%.

The report suggests Trump effectively mobilized his supporters by focusing on economic grievances, particularly inflation, while Harris emphasized concerns over the state of democracy. This strategic focus helped Trump solidify his base and win over key demographics.
