Rahul Gandhi Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh, Reflects on His Legacy

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Saturday joined the nation in mourning the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, India's former Prime Minister and the architect of the country’s economic liberalization. Dr. Singh, aged 92, passed away in New Delhi after being admitted to the hospital following a health crisis. His death marks the end of an era in Indian politics and economics.

Speaking from Dr. Singh’s residence, where his mortal remains were brought for public homage, Rahul Gandhi described Dr. Singh as a guiding light, a mentor, and a figure who transformed India’s economic narrative. "Dr. Manmohan Singh was not just a leader; he was a visionary who laid the foundation for India's modern economic success. His humility, intellect, and unwavering dedication to the nation are lessons for all of us,” Gandhi said.

Recalling Dr. Singh’s contributions, Gandhi highlighted his tenure as Finance Minister in 1991, during which he spearheaded transformative economic reforms, and his role as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014. "He always referred to himself as a student of economics, but to us, he was a teacher—a teacher who taught us resilience, reform, and how to lead with dignity," he added.

Gandhi also reflected on Dr. Singh’s modest beginnings, growing up in a village that lacked electricity and water, and how he rose to become one of the most respected leaders globally. "He was a symbol of perseverance and brilliance. His journey from a small village in Punjab to leading the nation shows us that dreams can indeed turn into reality with determination and hard work," said Gandhi.

In his emotional address, Gandhi referred to Dr. Singh’s prophetic words from his 2014 press conference: “History will be kinder to me than the contemporary media.” He noted that history has indeed vindicated Dr. Singh as a statesman whose policies uplifted millions and whose leadership guided India through challenging times.

As the nation observes a seven-day mourning period, Dr. Singh’s mortal remains will be moved to the Congress headquarters tomorrow for party workers and supporters to pay their last respects. His last rites will be conducted with full state honors.

Rahul Gandhi concluded by saying, "India has lost not just a former Prime Minister, but a father figure who showed us what it means to serve the nation selflessly. His legacy will forever remain etched in the annals of our history."

Dr. Singh is survived by his wife and three daughters. His contributions to India’s economic and political landscape will continue to inspire generations to come.
