Hama, Syria (December 6, 2024)
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has regained control of Hama Military Airport and its surrounding areas after intense fighting, according to reports from multiple sources, including Athr Press and Al Mayadeen.
On December 5, 2024, the SAA encircled the airport and broke the siege of its forces stationed on Mount Zayn al-Abidin. With substantial air support from Russian forces, the SAA successfully secured the Hama Military Airport and the 87th Special Forces Brigade by the early hours of December 6.
Athr Press reported that the army targeted the supply lines of terrorist groups in Khan Sheikhoun in southern Idlib, aiding their advance. By midnight, the villages of Khattab and Maards in the northwestern Hama countryside were confirmed to be under SAA control.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent also confirmed that the SAA's operations led to the liberation of the strategic Mount Zayn al-Abidin, north and northwest of Hama city, further solidifying the army's position in the region.
The operation marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict, as the Hama Military Airport is a critical military asset in central Syria.
