This afternoon, Chilean model and entrepreneur María José "Coté" López became the victim of a violent carjacking on the Américo Vespucio Norte Highway, near the Los Libertadores junction in the Huechuraba district.
While driving home with a friend, López's vehicle was blocked by another car. Six armed individuals emerged, threatening her at gunpoint and demanding she exit the vehicle. In the process, the attackers struck López with their weapons, though she fortunately sustained no physical injuries.
López recounted the terrifying incident, stating the attackers had covered their faces and appeared to be adolescents. In fear for her safety, she complied with their demands and immediately reported the incident to the Chicureo sub-police station in Colina.
Thanks to the GPS tracking system installed in her white Mercedes, Carabineros (Chilean police) were able to locate the vehicle hours later in the Pudahuel district. The car was recovered undamaged, and forensic teams conducted on-site investigations, searching for fingerprints or other evidence to identify the suspects.
López expressed her relief at recovering the vehicle but highlighted the distress caused by the ordeal. She emphasized the need for greater safety measures on Chile’s urban highways to prevent such crimes.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
