China's government has initiated a Level 3 emergency response after a devastating earthquake struck the Tibet Autonomous Region. The decision was enacted by the Office of the State Council’s Earthquake Relief Headquarters in collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Management. A dedicated task force has been dispatched to the region to manage and coordinate ongoing rescue efforts.
Over 1,500 firefighters and rescue personnel have been mobilized to the affected areas, where they are providing medical assistance, conducting search and rescue operations, and working to mitigate the impact of the disaster. Emergency supplies, including tents, blankets, warm clothing, and other critical provisions, are being swiftly prepared for distribution to those in need.
The earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 6.8, struck Dingjie County in Shigatse city early this morning. As of the latest reports, 32 fatalities have been confirmed, with 38 individuals reported injured. Authorities are continuing their relief efforts while assessing the full extent of the damage.
