Patna: A clash broke out on Saturday between Patna Police and supporters of Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor after he was detained while sitting on an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan. Kishor had been protesting against alleged government inaction on pressing public issues.
In a statement before his detention, Kishor affirmed his party’s resolve to continue the agitation. "It is not a matter of decision for us whether we will continue this protest or not. We will continue doing what we are doing now, there will be no change in it," he said. Kishor also announced that the Jan Suraaj Party plans to file a petition in the Patna High Court on January 7 to challenge the government's actions.
Supporters of the Jan Suraaj Party decried Kishor's detention as undemocratic and staged protests, leading to a tense standoff with the police. Several party workers alleged police high-handedness during the crackdown.
The Patna Police justified their actions, citing concerns over law and order due to the gathering. Meanwhile, opposition leaders and activists have condemned the incident, calling it an assault on democratic rights.
