New Orleans, LA – FBI bomb technicians have successfully recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) placed in coolers at separate intersections in the French Quarter. One device was found at the crossroads of Bourbon and Orleans Streets, while the second was discovered approximately two blocks away. Both devices were safely neutralized, and authorities confirm there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigators have identified the suspect as Shamsa Din Jabar, who allegedly carried out this act of terrorism alone. Authorities believe Jabar rented an F-150 truck in Houston, Texas, on December 30 and drove to New Orleans the following evening. On December 31, he reportedly posted videos on an online platform expressing support for ISIS.
“This was a premeditated and evil act of terrorism,” officials stated during a press briefing. “At this point, there is no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in the attack.”
While parallels are being drawn to an ongoing FBI investigation into an incident in Las Vegas, authorities have not established any definitive links between the two cases.
The investigation remains in its early stages, with federal and local agencies following all leads to ensure public safety.
