A state-level convention on "Railway Safety" was organized today at the CITU Bihar State Office, Jamal Road, Patna. The event brought together railway workers, union leaders, and safety experts to deliberate on the growing concerns surrounding safety in the railway sector. The program was organized under the aegis of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), with Comrade A.R. Sindhu, All India Secretary of CITU, addressing the gathering as the keynote speaker.
In her speech, Com. A.R. Sindhu emphasized the critical importance of prioritizing safety measures in railways. She highlighted the increasing incidents of railway accidents and attributed many of them to privatization, reduced workforce, and inadequate investment in infrastructure and safety protocols.
“Railways are the lifeline of India, connecting millions daily, yet safety continues to be overlooked in the race for privatization and profit. This is not just about accidents but about the lives of workers and passengers,” said Com. Sindhu. She called for stronger trade union action and collective efforts to ensure that safety is not compromised for profit-making ventures.
The convention also featured discussions on recent derailments, track maintenance issues, and the role of contractual labor in safety standards. Speakers demanded an end to privatization in the railways, improved working conditions for railway employees, and immediate investment in modern safety technologies.
Trade union leaders stressed the need for a national movement to pressure the government to prioritize safety. The convention concluded with a resolution demanding urgent reforms in railway safety policies and rejecting any attempts to dilute public ownership of the railway sector.
This event marks another significant step in CITU’s ongoing campaign to safeguard public infrastructure and ensure the welfare of workers and passengers alike.
