An avalanche in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, near Mana village, has trapped workers, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. Initially, 57 laborers were reported trapped under the snow. Rescue efforts are being carried out by multiple agencies, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), with support from the Indian Air Force.
As per recent updates, 47 workers have been rescued safely, while the search continues for the remaining eight laborers. The rescue operations face severe challenges due to heavy snowfall, rain, and poor visibility, which have hindered communication and access. Helicopters are being deployed to aid the operation.
The avalanche occurred during the annual migration season, leaving the village largely deserted. Authorities, including Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami, have assured all possible assistance, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offering support to expedite the rescue efforts.
The mission continues under harsh weather conditions as authorities strive to ensure the safety of the remaining trapped workers.
