Kolkata, March 1: CPIM state secretary Md Salim lashed out at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and its leader Mamata Banerjee in a press conference following the alleged violence against students at Jadavpur University. Salim accused the TMC of employing BJP-style intimidation tactics, further alleging their involvement in orchestrating fear on campuses.
Salim brought up past incidents like the Gyaneshwari train tragedy and Nandigram killings, claiming that the TMC, BJP, and RSS are colluding to suppress dissent. He criticized the TMC's handling of education institutions, pointing out the lack of student council elections and repeated assaults on democratic spaces.
“Universities are supposed to nurture rational minds and teach critical thinking, but authoritarian forces like Modi and Mamata see them as threats,” he said. Salim also accused TMC of exploiting police forces for political gains, making them enforcers of the party's agenda rather than upholding justice.
Calling for accountability, he questioned the TMC's alleged ties with violent incidents and demanded transparency. Salim affirmed that the CPIM would continue fighting against the suppression of democratic rights in the state, urging people to stand against the "oppressive regime."
