Right to Disconnect: Workers Demand an End to After-Hours Exploitation

Bangalore: The Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU) has reignited the conversation on the "Right to Disconnect," demanding strict measures to prevent employers from invading workers' personal time through after-hours calls, emails, and messages.

This issue, which affects millions globally, is particularly acute in high-pressure industries like IT. Surveys reveal that over 77% of workers report burnout, with symptoms ranging from mental health struggles to disrupted family lives. KITU emphasizes that enforcing the right to disconnect is essential for tackling these challenges.

Countries like France have seen positive results from implementing such policies, including better mental health and enhanced productivity. In India, KITU calls for similar legislation to safeguard employees' personal time.

The union will stage a rally at Freedom Park, Bangalore, on March 9, 2025, at 2:30 PM, inviting IT and ITeS workers to stand united in reclaiming their work-life balance.
